Rx for Hazardous Attitudes

Recognizing a hazardous attitude is a first step.  But you have to know what to do next.  Here are some suggested "antidotes" for the five hazardous attitudes.  Hopfully, this will get you thinking about safe decision making, both in equestrian sports and your life

Anti-Authority Thought: "Don't tell me"

Antidote: "Follow the rules. They are usually correct and have a purpose."

Impulsive Thoughts: "Do something-quickly"

Antidote:  "Not so fast.  Think first"

Invulnerability: "It won't happen to me"

Antidote:  "It can happen to me- there are those that have and those that will"

Resignation Thought: "Whats the use, I'll give up"

Antidote:  "I/m not helpless-I can't give up"

Macho Thought:  "I can do it!"

Antidote:  "Taking chances are foolish"

RIDE SAFELY

This EMSA safety project is dedicated to the memory of Mary Angela Jaquith. Feburary 17, 1994-March 18, 2007. Mary Angela was born to ride horses.  She started at age 4 and continued to compete and strive to perfection until her untimely accidental death at age 13.

Mary Angela inspired others to be better people, she dreamed of becoming a vetrinarian, but died doing what she loved.  We at EMSA were inspired to produce this equestrian safety project in her memory in order that future horse accidents may be avoided.
