International Helmet Awareness Day is designed to educate horse people about the benefits of wearing a properly fitted, secured, certified helmet. The program is presented by Riders4Helmets as a collaboration of manufactures, retailers, scientist and those interested in concussion risk reduction.
Leading helmet manufactures and retailers near you offer a one-time special discount special discount on helmet purchases on August 1, 2015. There are hundreds of retailers in a dozen countries around the world who will help you choose and fit the right helmet for you.
In addition, on International Helmet Awareness Day there will be a webinar (“Get Educated“) that you may stream live (taking place in Lexington, KY -US EDS time) which will cover a series of topics on helmets, safety, concussion/Traumatic Brain Injury, and recovery stories. There will be scientific discussions of helmet testing standards, survey results about attitudes toward helmet use, research on increased risk of concussion in women, safety tips for riding along roads and much more.
The first five International Helmet Awareness Day have been productive in presenting practical information for horse people on the difficult-to-talk-about problem of head injury.
